$ 476.2 million was invested by the Vincom Group in building its Vincom Village project on 183.5 ha in Hanoi’s Long Bien district. The project includes villas, apartment blocks, trade centers, a school and a hospital. Developers expect to complete the first phase of construction by the end of this year.
$ 60 million will be invested by Thai Beverage Can Ltd and America’s Ball Corporation to build an aluminium can plant in the southern province of Binh Duong. The project, slated for operation in mis-2012, will cover an area of 80,000 sq m at the Vietnam –Singapore No 2 Industrial Park and have an annual production capacity of 850 million cans.
$ 25 million was spent by Jollibee Foods Corp, the Philippines’ largest fast food chain operator, to buy a 49 per cent stake in the Viet Thai International Joint Stock Company. Viet Thai, the owner and operator of Highlands Coffee, plans to use part of Jollibee’s investment to fund its purchase of a restaurant chain.
$23 million was invested by the Hanoi Corp to build a new brewery in An Lao district in the northern part city of Hai Phong. The newly opened brewery has annual production capacity of 50 million litres of beer.
$15 million has been invested by Bank of Investment and Development of Cambodia (BIDC) to open a branch in Hanoi. The branch will offer a variety of products and services to customers, including e-payment, credit card and remittance facilities.
$ 8.7 million was invested by TNG Investment and Trade Company to build a new garment factory in the northern province of Thai Nguyen. The 9 ha TNG Phu Binh garment factory has a designed capacity of 3,5 million products a year, all of which will be exported to the EU, Japan and the US.
$2.4 million has been invested by Tra Giang International Beauty and Cosmetic Co to build a cosmetics manufacturing and packaging plant at the Dong Tho Industrial Zone in northern Bac Ninh province. Covering 6,400 sq m , the plant is expected to begin operation in October . It will manufacture hair care products such as shampoo, conditioner and heir style, and be able to produce 500 million products per year.
$ 413,000 has been spent by World Bank Vietnam to award 16 projects on Vietnam Innovation Day (VID). VID 2011 identifies and directly supports small and innovative development proposals that exhibit potential for development and deliver results that can be expanded upon or replicated. The theme for this year’s programme is “ Innovation for Social Equity and Sustainable Growth”.
